Why a Private Villa Wedding

Your own estate, not a hotel ballroom

A destination wedding at a private villa in Puerto Vallarta is nothing like a resort package. The estate is yours for the entire celebration — rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and after-party — with no shared spaces, no time-slot handovers, and no strangers walking through your photos.

Villa Experience has managed luxury villas on Banderas Bay since 2006, and weddings are the heart of what we do. We have hosted celebrations across Puerto Vallarta and Punta Mita for years — working side by side with the same planners, photographers, florists, and officiants you’ll meet further down this page. Bring us your date and your guest count; we’ll bring the villa, the chef, and the people who make it flawless.

Every wedding villa in this collection comes fully staffed — private chef, butler and bar service, housekeeping, and on-site coordination — so your only job is to be present for the best weekend of your life.

Budget, Honestly

How much does a Puerto Vallarta villa wedding cost?

The average destination wedding in Puerto Vallarta comes in around $10,215 USD per couple — a fraction of the ~$36,000 average U.S. wedding — and villa weddings put that budget on screen: your venue is also your home, your caterer, and your after-party.

The math: villa rentals in this collection run $1,025–$2,888 per night fully staffed (Casa Karma from $2,155, typically over a 3–4 night wedding weekend), plus a one-time event fee — commonly $1,000–$8,000 in the region; $3,000 + tax at Casa Karma. Private catering typically runs 40–60% less than hotel banquet pricing. Add 16% IVA, roughly $300 for a federal-zone beach-ceremony permit if you marry on the sand, and 10–15% staff gratuities.

Because the villa sleeps your wedding party, lodging that would be a guest expense at a resort becomes part of the venue — and guests typically spend $1,000–$1,680 each on flights and hotels either way, so a walkable villa neighborhood is a gift to them too.

Figures reflect 2026 market data and our own venue pricing; your written proposal itemizes everything before you commit.

When to marry — and how to make it legal

Puerto Vallarta earned seven nominations at the 2025 Travvy Awards, including Best Wedding Destination in Mexico — and Mexico hosts more U.S. destination weddings than any other country. Here is what the calendar and the paperwork actually look like.

The best time for a Puerto Vallarta wedding

  • November–May · dry season. Blue-sky ceremony weather; December–March sees under an inch of rain a month at 72–82°F.
  • December–March · whale season. Humpbacks breach in Banderas Bay behind your vows.
  • June–October · green season. Lush hillsides, dramatic sunsets, better rates; showers pass in late afternoon — plan covered terraces.
  • Book 9–12 months out for peak dates; the tourism board celebrates some 360 days of sunshine a year, but the best villas still sell out first.
Questions Couples Ask

Puerto Vallarta wedding villas — FAQ

How much does a Puerto Vallarta villa wedding cost?

Villa rentals in our collection run from about $1,025 to $2,888 USD per night (Casa Karma from $2,155), plus a one-time event fee — typically $1,000–$8,000 in the region; $3,000 + tax at Casa Karma. Budget 16% IVA, and staff gratuities of 10–15%. All-in, couples commonly land between $10,000 and $30,000 for a villa wedding weekend — the Puerto Vallarta average destination wedding is around $10,215 per couple, versus roughly $36,000 for the average U.S. wedding.

Is a villa wedding cheaper than an all-inclusive resort wedding?

Often, yes — especially for 15–50 guests. Resorts add outside-vendor fees ($500–$1,000+), day passes for non-staying guests ($100–$200 each), and 15–20% taxes and service charges. A villa includes lodging for your wedding party, and private catering typically runs 40–60% less than hotel banquet pricing — while you keep the venue to yourselves all weekend.

How many guests can a Puerto Vallarta wedding villa host?

Our villas sleep 10 to 34 guests overnight, and host ceremonies from intimate elopements to full-scale celebrations: Casa Karma and Villa Mandarinas each welcome up to 200 event guests. For larger guest lists we arrange adjacent villas and overflow lodging nearby.

What is the best time of year for a wedding in Puerto Vallarta?

November through May is the dry season — December to March sees under an inch of rain per month with days of 72–82°F, and it overlaps humpback-whale season. June to October is lush green season with afternoon-evening showers and better rates; morning ceremonies and covered terraces keep it comfortable. The tourism board promotes some 360 days of sunshine a year.

How far in advance should we book a wedding villa?

For peak season (December–April), reserve your villa 9–12 months ahead — the best-known estates like Casa Karma book out earliest, and weekend events there carry a 4-night minimum. Shoulder-season dates can come together in 4–6 months. Couples planning destination weddings average about an 18-month runway.

Can we hold both the ceremony and the reception at the villa?

Yes. Most of our wedding villas have dedicated outdoor spaces for both — ocean terraces, gardens, poolside decks, and beachfront settings — so you can move from vows to cocktails to dinner without transporting guests. Casa Karma alone has three tiered terraces: Labyrinth (150 ceremony / 120 banquet), Middle (70/50 with full bar and dressing room), and Garden.

What are the legal requirements to get married in Puerto Vallarta?

A civil ceremony is performed in Spanish by a Juez del Registro Civil and is internationally recognized. You’ll need valid passports and tourist cards, apostilled birth certificates translated by a Mexico-licensed perito traductor, single-status affidavits (plus divorce or death certificates where applicable), four witnesses with ID, and a local health screening. Our officiant partners handle the paperwork end to end.

Do we need a blood test, and how early should we arrive?

Yes — civil ceremonies in Jalisco and Nayarit require a local blood test (results in 24–48 hours). Plan to arrive at least 3–4 business days before the wedding to complete the test and paperwork, and start document preparation about four months out.

Should we have a civil or a symbolic ceremony?

Most destination couples choose a symbolic ceremony in Mexico — no documents, blood tests, or waiting periods — and complete the legal marriage at home. If you want the real thing under the palms, a civil ceremony at your villa is absolutely doable with a few days’ lead time; we’ll connect you with licensed officiants either way.

Are there noise restrictions or music curfews at villas?

Residential neighborhoods in Puerto Vallarta generally observe quiet hours from around 10–11 PM, with amplified music outdoors typically ending by then. Villas with enclosed or lower-level spaces keep after-parties going indoors — your planner will design the timeline around it.

Do we need a wedding planner, or does the villa provide coordination?

Every Villa Experience wedding includes event coordination essentials — venue logistics, staffing, chef and menu planning, and vendor scheduling. For full design and production we recommend one of the professional planners featured on this page; we’ve worked alongside them for years and make introductions at no charge.

Is Puerto Vallarta a good destination for LGBTQ+ weddings?

One of the best in the world. Same-sex marriage is fully legal in both Jalisco and Nayarit, and Puerto Vallarta is Mexico’s leading LGBTQ+ destination. Casa Karma in particular is celebrated as one of the city’s most beloved villas for LGBTQ+ weddings.

Do beach ceremonies require a permit?

Ceremonies on the federal beach zone require a permit, typically around $300 USD, arranged in advance. Ceremonies held on villa terraces or private grounds — like Casa Karma’s Labyrinth Terrace above its cove — don’t need one.
